The following summary is a living document of the various Crew Positions on Salient. On Salient, our objective is to have all crew understand each role on the boat and be an expert in one. With this knowledge, each person can step in and backup another if required. We don't expect people to be experts right away, however we strive to be better each and every day on the boat and after a few practices and races things will fall into place.
As Salient is still an instructional boat, we will frequently have to convert the boat from cruise mode to race mode and back. This will involve removing the dodger and moving the cushions from the main cabin to the aft cabin. Any spinnakers should be moved to the forward cabin and any head-sails should be moved to the main cabin. At the end of of the day we may have to convert the boat back to cruise mode.
NOTE: We refer to “runners” in this document. We don’t have running back stays (or check stays) at this point.
However, crew referred to as “runners” are the ones who don’t have an assigned position such as “foredeck”,
